Generation Talent is a programme run by Business in the Community (BITC) and the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) which aims to help businesses take on more unemployed people.
Currently, 92% of businesses use informal methods such as word-of-mouth to recruit for entry level positions, and 72% of managers consider unemployment of six months or more to be a negative indicator of candidates’ ability. Even for employers keen to take on more unemployed people, the recruitment process can militate against those aims.
BITC’s programme helps employers make small tweaks to their recruitment processes which can lead to them taking on more unemployed people. It has developed a Self-Assessment Tool which helps employers identify and tackle recruitment bias, and DWP can work with employers to recruit more people through Jobcentre Plus.
Generation Talent currently works with almost 100 employers and is still expanding.
