ReVive is a social enterprise that gives homeless people training and real work experience in painting and decorating.
St Mungo’s established ReVive in November 2009, deciding it would operate as a commercial business competing against external contractors to undertake work at their various accommodation projects and offices. As it has developed, ReVive has also completed work for partners including housing associations and developers.
The project is run in line with the Recovery Approach, the belief that homeless people can, and do, want to recover from homelessness and are capable of achieving their goals. Participants gain a range of valuable skills including how to work in a team and produce high quality work to deadline. This is significant as many St Mungo’s clients have not worked for a number of years and a number have never had a job. In its first year ReVive completed nine decorating contracts worth £43,000, trained 13 homeless people and supported 6 people into sustained employment.
